daily reckonings the thirty-ninth and fortieth

wednesday's food log:
  • breakfast: starbucks, baby--a grande awake tea with milk and raw sugar, and half a blueberry scone
  • lunch: went to mam fu's with puryear--had some honey chicken with carrots and sugar snap peas. this made me sick. more on that later.
  • dinner: a little bit of salad and 1 slice of pesto pizza
  • snacks/other: half an oatmeal cookie from starbucks
  • desserts/sweets: cinnamon angel food cake with a little vanilla ice cream, some whipped cream, and various berries at willow's birthday party (she was one year old on wednesday).
activities: it was 104 degrees out., you tell me... then i was up all night, sick as a dog. something somewhere did NOT agree with me--i believe it was the mama fu's chicken. so how much of the food i actually digested is a mystery. yuck.

thusrday's food log:
  • breakfast: a honey-sweetened blueberry muffin from whole foods and 2 cups of the normal tea
  • lunch: four chicken fingers and a little salad from red robin
  • dinner: went to 518 west with the hippie. had whole wheat fettucine with chicken, mushrooms, rosemary, and a light marsala cream sauce. also had a side of steamed asparagus. all good, and i stopped eating when i was full, always a bit of a feat for me.
  • snacks/other: no snacks
  • desserts/sweets: no desserts either
activities: walked to and from dinner in spite of the nasty heat--dinner was about 1/2 a mile from our house.

daily reckoning the thirty-eighth

for tuesday:

food log:
  • breakfast: 1/2 a cup of oatmeal with 1% milk, half a banana and the normal tea
  • lunch: went to rockfish with the hippie. had half an order of fried calimari, about 2/3 of a blackened chicken sandwich, and a little bit of cole slaw. stopped eating when i was full and totally resisted my fabulous looking fries. didn't eat a single one.
  • dinner: ended up on my own for dinner, so i got takeout sushi and a little salad. yum.
  • snacks/other: no snacks yesterday.
  • desserts/sweets: no sweets either.
activities: nope--i took last night for much-needed down time.

daily reckoning the thirty-seventh

this is for yesterday of course.

food log:
  • breakfast: half a cup of oatmeal with half a banana and some 1% milk, plus the normal tea
  • lunch: 1 chicken kabob, a little bit of hummus, and some fruit salad with half of a whole wheat pita from neomonde. oh, and some iced tea, half sweet, half un-sweet.
  • dinner: salmon with white wine and lime, stir-fried asparagus and red pepper, and two or three bites of some badly overcooked jasmine rice (new brand with bad cooking instructions--clearly the instructions of my japanese friends forever trumps the on-the-bag instructions on any rice from this point forward), and half a glass of white wine
  • snacks/other: no snacks today.
  • desserts/sweets: no sweets, either, which is a miracle, due to my newest addiction: dulce de leche ice cream from this place near us called turkish delights. i resisted. very proud.
activities: not so much--as always, this is my area of difficulty.

in summary...

so let's see--in case you haven't figured it out, i have been a bit too busy to post anything lately. here's a sort of summary for days 25-36.

denise and tristan came (the psuedo-mother and brother-in law) and there was much running around and eating out. nothing too bad ont he food front while they were here, and quite a bit of walking around and some sitting around, too. i have to work most of the time they were here, but that didn't stop us from getting in a trip to the beach and some shopping, and a visit to the CPT, all of which had me on my feet. the bad thing is all the eating out. i am sick to death of eating out.

the two days after they left i had a nasty migraine i thought might kill me, so not a lot of cooking then either. but still--things food-wise were fairly under control.

this past weekend, however, was junk food central. starting with the rich and almost undoubtedly high fat dinner we had out on thursday for maggie's birthday, the eating just continued. we had chili dogs and beer for dinner on friday night, followed by some ice cream. saturday wasn't too bad except for the chips i ate--i actually had a reasonable dinner at least: grilled tuna marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, and fresh ginger, grilled asparagus and jasmine rice with shredded scallions and carrots--yum. sunday was a junk food fest and alias marathon, and there was near-constant grazing on snacks punctuated by meals of cheeseburgers and pizza. god only knows how many calories! the good news is that all that junk food yesterday made me kind of ill. my body was like--what the hell are you DOING up there??? is the brain broken? and yes, folks, i have to say--i think it was.

anyway--going to try to get back on track this week. started my morning with oatmeal and tea, and planning to go to neomonde for lunch, where things are healthy. iam gonna make something good and fishy for dinner, too.

daily reckoning the twenty-fourth

actually doing one of these on the right day for once...

food log:
  • breakfast: a cinnamon scone from wellspring whole foods and the standard hot tea (breafast with tom!!!)
  • lunch: went to ted's montana grill and ordered the bison meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and squash casserole. all in all, none of it was particularly satisfying--the meatloaf was way too sweet for me, and the mashed potatoes were kind of bland. i ate about half of both and most of the squash casserole. stole a few fries from the hipppie.
  • dinner: sushi with tom and jenn and harry and gabriella and the hippie--whoo hoo! although to be honest, it's not settling all that well with me.
  • snacks/other: no snacks, although i seriously wanted some this afternoon--i resisted the caramel pecan popcorn offered by harry. go me.
  • desserts/sweets: 1 hershey's dark chocolate nugget with almonds.
activities: does laundry count? i am doing a lot of that as we speak...

how do i motivate myself to get up off my ass and do something physical??? i know it's the key, but for some reason i keep finding reasons not to do it. why am i so irrational about this?

daily reckoning the twenty-third

food log:
  • breakfast: oatmeal with half a banana, cinnamon, and a teaspoon or so of white sugar, along with the usual tea
  • lunch: half of a babymoon grilled chicken sandwich with fresh mozarella, some pasta salad, and two bites of a cookie that was WAY too sweet and went right into the trash
  • dinner: went to 518 west with the hippie. had some of a not-so-great fried calimari appetizer, and then a great dinner of grilled shrimp and polenta with mushrooms, prociutto, and leeks in a lobster broth. good, but a little salty--plus there was WAY too much, so i only ate about half. i ate two pieces of foccacia with olive oil and balsamic vinegar with dinner, too. carb city.
  • snacks/other: no snacks. even forgot to eat the cherries i brough to work for a snack.
  • desserts/sweets: resisted, although man, did i want some ice cream!
activities: walked to dinner, which is saying somthing given the level of humidity yesterday.

daily reckoning the twenty-second

this is for sunday, as we were with friends until too late to blog last night.

food log:
  • breakfast: went to finch's, a divery diner. had two eggs over easy with bacon and home fries and dry toast. not a light breakfast.
  • lunch: a banana and a piece of 7-grain peanit butter toast along with a cup of tea.
  • dinner: cooked out at harry and jenn's house. had grilled teriyaki chicken, sticky japanese rice with shredded carrots and scallions, and steamed green beans with lemon juice and garlic. jenn's a good cook. :)
  • snacks/other: no snacks yesterday
  • desserts/sweets: rice crispy treats! (i had two small ones)
activities: some general housework, but not much else.

weekly reckoning the third

i am impressed that i actually remembered to step on the scale before having my tea this morning. here, for the first time, is an on-time weekly reckoning.
  • number of gym visits for the week: zip, zilch, nadda
  • body fat percentage: 46%
  • weight: 202.4 lb.
  • number of pounds to goal: 42.4
i also have to say that i am amazed that even the smallest effort on my part shows a loss. i know i would be rapidly shedding pounds if i would just get my ss into the gym. what the hell is my problem??? but anyway--i digress...

daily reckoning the nineteenth

this is for yesterday, i am still really busy at work, and the hippie and i had a date night last night, so there was no blogging till today. :)

food log:
  • breakfast: a lemon poppyseed muffin and a grande awake tea with raw sugar and milk from starbucks
  • lunch: went to neomonde, and had a healthy vegetarian lunch consisting of hummus, half of a whole wheat pita, fatoush (which is like a marinated vegetable salad with tomatoes and peppers and cucumbers), and mujadahra (which i am probably spelling wrong and is a lentil and brown rice dish with caramelized onions on top), and some fruit salad with rose water
  • dinner: SUSHI!!! went to waraji and had some seared tuna and two sushi rolls (a mary roll, which is a california roll with sesame seeds instead of smelt roe and spicy tuna piled on top, and a caterpillar roll containing eel and cucumber and avacado)
  • snacks/other: a second cup of starbucks tea in the evening, after dinner
  • desserts/sweets: resisted it all for once
activities: nope. this is the part i need to work on. can you tell?

daily reckonings the thirteenth through the eighteenth, plus a weekly reckoning, too

ok, so i have not been posting because I HAVE NOT HAD TIME. we had the sam in this weekend, and we had a big cookout, and rather than try to remember what in the world i ate, let's just suffice it to say, it was a lot and it was bad. just so you get a sampling, i have had burgers, turkey burgers, Southern potato salad with actual miracle whip in it, baked beans with bacon, peach cobbler, banana pudding, ice cream, articoke dip, POTATO CHIPS (only on one day, but still--the first chips i have had in like a year), leftover burgers et al, plus a big-ass breakfast at big ed's. i can't say i am ALL that sorry about the eating fest that was my holiday weekend, but i CAN say i am sick of eating. and i am SO done with burgers.

so yeah--need to get back on track. it's so hard when you have people visiting, and it's so hard when you throw a party, and it's so hard when your schedule gets all out of whack. not making excuses, just stating the facts. to me, especially as a Southern woman, entertaining and celebrating are all tied up in food. and the fourth of july especially is tied up in Bad Food, becasue that is what i always had on the 4th as a child. traditions are hard to break, especially when that holiday is all about celebrating cultural traditions. anyway.

meanwhile, i actually DID remember to weigh on sunday, so i can at least offer up a weekly reckoning for last week:
  • number of gym visits for the week: zip, zilch, nadda
  • body fat percentage: 47%
  • weight: 202.7 lb.
  • number of pounds to goal: 42.7

daily reckonings the eleventh and twelfth

behind again--it's just THAT kind of week. anyway--here's the news from the last couple of days, finally.

food log:
  • breakfast:
    • wednesday: a blueberry muffin from whole foods and a cup of EB tea with milk and sugar, like always. (in case you haven't picked up on this by now, i am a bit of a tea addict.)
    • thursday: unfortunate breakfast of brown sugar and cinnamon pop tarts and my standard hot tea--i came into work really early, forgot to bring anything with me, and there was NOTHING else at work to eat. i gave in when i started getting a headache. i admit that i LOVE pop tarts, but i probably eat them only about three or four times a year.
  • lunch:
    • wednesday: a salad from chick-fil-a with fat free honey mustard dressing and an unsweetened iced tea. it took ALL of my will not to eat a fried chicken sandwich and fries, but i resisted. yay!
    • thursday: a grilled chicken sandwich on a whole wheat bun with avacados, lettuce and tomato, and a little mayo, some squash casserole, and unsweetened iced tea. oh, and three french fries, one with gravy on it (stole them from a friend).
  • dinner:
    • wednesday: went to dinner with eric and kylie to the bamboo club. had a lychee martini, half of a really bad summer roll, some pad thai, and some stir fried shrimp with mushrooms and asparagus. i skipped the rice since thre were noodles in the pad thai.
    • thursday: the hippie and i went to evoo, where i had a half of a fried calimari appetizer, and some grilled sea bass and sauteed spinach in a tomato saffron broth. there were some lobster ravioli with my entree, too, but i was just not in the mood for them.
  • snacks/other:
    • wednesday: no snacks. had an extra cup of hot tea with 1 tsp. of sugar and some milk in the afternoon.
    • thursday: no snacks today either.
  • desserts/sweets:
    • wednesday: no desserts.
    • thursday: the hippie and i were planning to go to dessert, but then we decided to just hang out at home instead. so--no sweets on thursday.
activities: does working like a dog count? i haven't had time to do anything at all this week. hopefully next week will be a little easier so i will feel more like doing things outside of work.
