perhaps i spoke too soon...

apparently by "back on the wagon" what i actually meant was--um--sorta doing a little better this week. i have been OK during the day for the most part, but my nights have been pretty bad. i was supposed to cook tuesday night, but ended up not cooking, and i think it ruined the whole rest of the week for eating. *sigh* i guess this is just the way it goes. the best i can do right now is try to make better choices when i eat out instead of looking at eating out as a license to throw dietary caution to the wind. the bottom line is that i need a) to gt my fat ass into the gym, and b) more time to cook.

back on the wagon 11/07/05

actually i guess we got back on the wagon, mostly, on sunday night when i made us a good healthy dinner of herb crusted lamb sirloin with sauteed mushrooms, spinach with garlic and olive oil, and ginger-whipped sweet potatoes. the rest of sunday was a bust though, so i am not bothering to detail it. all you need to know is embodied in these two words: halloween candy. ugh!

after last week's free-for-all that was really due to lack of preparation more than any desire to cheat (and believe me, it could have been A LOT worse!), we are back on tract and in phase two of south beach. this means that we can have back some whole grains and fruits along with some of the highr sugar-conten veggies (like winter squash, carrots, etc.). we are kind of doing a hybrid phase one and two-ish thing. here's what we had yesterday:
  • breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal (not instant--ew!) with 1 tsp raw sugar, cinnamon, and 1% milk, along with a cup of tea
  • lunch: roast beef and mustard on whole grain bread with LF cheddar cheese, mustard, and lettuce and tomato, and a small caesar salad
  • dinner: salmon with white wine and lime, stir-fried asparagus and red pepper, steamed brown rice
  • snacks/other: a yali pear--my favorite!
  • desserts/sweets: 2 little pieces of dark chocolate (allowed on the diet), 2 small whole grain biscotti--the sugar in these is definitely cheating
activities: washed a pile of dishes and made a bunch of wire things. i don't have a clue how many calories that burned, but my hands sure do hurt.
